We like powerful, high quality, and fully controllable cameras. We like the Nikon D2H and the Canon EOS-1Ds. We like the Olympus Camedia E-20 and of course the Hasselblad H1. Sometimes it's just not practical to lug these around, or you don't have the time to unpack a full system. You need a camera that you can keep in your pocket that's ready at a moment's notice, that you forget about until the need arises. Enter the $550 Sony Cyber-shot DSC-T1, an ultra-slim 5MP camera which can be forgiven for using its proprietary Memory Stick Pro Duo format.
The DSC-T1 is a fully-auto, JPEG only shooter, but can take four exposures in 1.6 seconds, supports spot metering, auto ISO between 100 and 400, and has an optical zoom lens equivalent to 38-114mm (f3.5-4.4). Its batteries will last about 170 exposures, which makes it great for carrying around while scouting locations or when you do not want to be caught without a camera.
