The Panasonic Lumix G X Vario 12-35mm F2.8 ASPH Power OIS is an excellent partner to the recently launched OM-D E-M5, currently the only body to match the lens' environmental sealing. The lens itself is part of Panasonic's premium 'X' badged lenses, and is sold at a premium price of around $1,000. The range given in 35mm equivalents is not uncommon, with the 24-70mm F2.8 L lens being one of Canon's most popular walking ranges and even more pricey.

The Nikon D4 has a number of small but noticeable improvements over its high-speed predecessor, the Nikon D3s. An improved viewfinder offers 100% coverage, an improved 51-point autofocus system also allows dropping down to 9-point or 21-point modes, and the new 16MP full-frame sensor supports improved dynamic range.

The Pentax K-mount mirrorless camera is out and reviewed, and has been generally underwhelming. While it has been well received in build and image quality, many of the theoretical benefits of a mirrorless system are missing: fast bursts, small and light cameras. There seems to be little reason at this point to spend $750 on the K-01 body rather than one of the excellent Pentax digital SLRs.
