Canon EOS-1Ds: Top studio camera
Canon's EOS-1Ds repeats this year. Kodak's DCS Pro SLR/c and SLR/n models are serious options.

Canon EOS-1D Mark II: Top safari/sports camera
The EOS-1D line continues as the top camera, with the Mark II replacing its predecessor.

Canon 20D: Top enthusiast SLR
8MP at 5fps in a solid body and supporting Canon's new EF-S lenses in addition to the large EF range; the EOS 20D currently defines this category.

Nikon D70: Top entry-level SLR
The Nikon D70 is Nikon's response to last year's winner, Canon's EOS 300D. It's a little better, but not worth changing systems.

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-F828: Top non-interchangeable lens camera
The DSC-F828 is a high-resolution, 8MP, 28-200mm (equivalent) bridge camera. It won last year, and it's still the highest resolution camera in its class.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ20: Top compact camera
The DMC-FZ20 is a 12x superzoom camera. While it only has a 5MP sensor in a field with seven and eight MP, the extra zoom level can help capture more detail from a distance.

Casio Exilim EX-Z55: Top ultracompact camera
The Casio Exilim EX-Z55 is a 5MP, 3x (35-105mm) ultracompact, both lighter and smaller than last year's Cyber-shot DSC-T1. It also takes standard SD cards.
