Sony and Hasselblad recently announced a joint partnership wherein Hasselblad will be making cameras with parts sourced from Sony. The initial models have been criticized as being existing Sony models with superficial changes and exorbitant mark-ups from the Sony price. Hasselblad has defended the increased price by arguing that their materials are more expensive.

Samsung announced two new lenses for its NX line-up, an ultra wide-angle 12-24mm F4-5.6 (18.5-37mm equivalent) and a 45mm F1.8 (69mm equivalent) telephoto.

Olympus and Panasonic have announced several new Micro Four Thirds lenses, the most exciting being the Lumix G X 35-100mm F2.8 which is environmentally sealed and makes an excellent companion to the similar 12-35mm F2.8 lens, which together provide an equivalent 35mm range of 24mm-200mm at a constant F2.8 aperture. The other lenses announced are fast primes: Panasonic 42.5mm F1.2 and 150mm F2.8, as well as Olympus 17mm F1.8 and 60mm F2.8 macro lenses. Finally, Olympus also announced a toy 15mm F8 "body-cap" lens.

The Leica X2 looked like it was set to be the most expensive fixed-lens camera of 2012 (there had not been a camera at the $2,000 mark since 2009's Leica X1), but that looks like it will change with the release of the Sony RX1 at the end of the year which will have an expected price of $2,800.…

Nikon's 1 compact camera system is at a disadvantage over its competitors with its smaller (1") sensor size limiting the amount of light it can capture. The New 1 Nikkor 18.5mm F1.8 lens is the equivalent of a fast 50mm prime on a 35mm-film camera and provides a modicum of creative control of depth of field for those 1-series users wanting some artistic defocussing and bokeh.

Third-party lens manufacturer Samyang announced a 24mm F3.5 tilt-shift lens at Photokina offering 12mm of shift and 8.5° of shift. The lens will be available for the four main DSLR mounts: EF, F, K and Sony's Alpha mount. This should provide a cheaper option compared to expensive first-party T&S lenses.

FujiFilm has announced a new model using their XF-mount, following the release of the X-Pro1 earlier this year. The X-E1 is the slightly smaller mid-market sibling to its older brother. While the X-E1 has an electronic-only viewfinder rather than the exciting hybrid of the X-Pro1, it also has an in-built flash and similar control layout not to mention the same high-quality XF mount lenses.
